Abstract

To show the basic mechanism and the influential factors of induced airflow acceleration by plasma aerodynamic actuation, the induced airflow velocities were measured when the ambient air was still. The experimental conclusion shows that once the instant plasma aerodynamic actuation is started, a start-up vortex appears, and then moves behind and finally evolves into jet stream close to the actuator surface; the induced airflow velocities and the range of the jet stream increase when the actuation voltage rises; the induced airflow velocity variation is not obvious when the actuation frequency rises; the airflow velocities induced by plasma actuator with more pairs of electrodes increase firstly and then decrease periodically, and the impact of induced airflow acceleration weakens gradually as the stream-wise location rises.
