Abstract
In addition to abradable seal coatings on casings, abrasive coatings are essential for enhancing turbine blade tip performance. This study introduces a NiCoCrAlY/Al₂O₃ abrasive coating to address this need. Results indicate that NiCoCrAlY/Al₂O₃ coatings provide superior oxidation and corrosion resistance compared to NiAl/cBN and NiAlTa coatings. Al₂O₃ particles remained stable even after exposure to corrosive conditions. Abrasion ratios for NiCoCrAlY/Al₂O₃-coated blade tips were 4.1 and 3.1 times greater than bare tips at 25 °C and 1000 °C, respectively. These findings highlight the potential of NiCoCrAlY/Al₂O₃ coatings to enhance turbine blade tip durability and engine efficiency, particularly in high-temperature applications.
