Abstract

Objective: To establish transplantation tumor model of human anaplastic thyroid cancer in the chick embryo and observe the growth and morphology of transplantation tumor. Methods: We collected tumor tissues of 11 patients with thyroid anaplastic carcinoma from 2007 to 2011 for HE staining and analysis. In a sterile environment, a certain amount of anaplastic thyroid cancer cell lines FROwas inoculated into chick embryo chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) to observe the survival of chick embryo as well as the growth, morphological characteristics and biological characteristics of transplantation tumor. Then the transplanted tumor tissue was taken for HE staining. Results: Anaplastic thyroid cancer cell lines FRO of 20 μL containing 6×106 could grow in the chick embryo chorioallantoic membrane and did not affect the vitality of the chick embryo. The morphological characteristics of the transplantation tumor were similar to those of human thyroid undifferentiated cancer tissue. Conclusion: We successfully constructed transplantation tumor model of human anaplastic thyroid cancer in the chick embryo. The model can provide an animal model for further study on anaplastic thyroid cancer.
