Abstract

Objective: To establish a 3-dimensional finite element model (3-D FEM) of mandibular complete overdenture based on post-core abutment and its supporting tissues, and to lay foundation for studying biomechanical characteristics and optimizing design of this kind of prosthesis. Methods: We used 3-dimensional scanning technique and computer-aided design, then loaded vertically on the whole dentition of the denture according to the mean occlusal force of complete denture. Results: A 3-D FEM of mandibular complete overdenture based on post-core abutment and its supporting tissues was established. Conclusion: The established model fits the actual intraoral situation in boundary setting, loading way and loading force. Therefore, it may be used for the stress distribution of mandibular complete overdenture based on post-core abutment and its supporting tissues.
