Abstract

The deposition and erosion of the plasma facing materials (PFMs)-the graphite with surface modified by SiC doping-in the limiter of the experimental advanced superconducting tokmak (EAST) was experimentally studied by Rutherford back scattering (RBS) for the purposes of reducing the contamination of the plasma at extremely high temperature, and increasing the safety of EAST. In the simulation experiment, 4 marked tiles covered with 1 μm thick carbon films were installed in the limiter. The preliminary results show that the averaged erosion rate was higher than 0.0278 nm/s, after the plasma exposure up to 36,000 s, indicating the complete removal of the carbon film. The negative impacts and possible solution of the erosion and re-deposition of the PFMs were also tentatively discussed.
