Abstract

To examine dynamic performances of the solar thermochemistry utilization system, dynamic simulation and energy potential analysis models were developed on the solar methanol reforming system, which mainly consist of LS-2 collectors and a chemical reactor, and were modelled with Dymola. System dynamic characteristics were analyzed, including the outlet temperature change of the working fluid, the energy level of output products under the irradiation fluctuation. Results show that a minute-level time lag of temperature and output change exists with a step change of the direct normal irradiance. The reaction rate and conversion rate are also simultaneously changed. The energy level of output products decreases with the rise of working fluid temperature. As a result, the exergy loss of produced hydrogen combustion is lower than methanol direct combustion, and the cascade utilization of chemical energy is achieved. The results may provide some guidance for the design and operation solar thermochemical utilization technology.
