Abstract

The grid-connected wind turbine (WT) normally requires the phase-lock loop (PLL) to ensure the integration of wind energy. However, improper settings of control parameters in PLL and weak AC grid condition might bring about negative damping for the system. To overcome these, this paper presents a design of DC voltage synchronization control (DVSC) for permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) based WT by using the energy function-based method. By coupling the DC-link voltage with converter frequency, the grid side converter (GSC) of the PMSG realizes self-synchronization without the aid of PLL. The inertia response and damping support of GSC can also be obtained simultaneously by utilizing the dynamic of DC-link voltage without jeopardizing the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) property of PMSG. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control, the energy function-based analysis of PMSG WT, as well as nonlinear simulations are conducted to show that the transient stability of the PMSG-based WT can be guaranteed with the proposed DVSC.
