Abstract

Thermal stress would affect the surface charge accumulation of insulation, causing unpredictable threat to insulation safety. It is necessary to investigate the effect of temperature on surface charging characteristics. In this paper, epoxy/SiC composite sheets with different SiC contents were fabricated. The corresponding surface potential under different temperatures were measured. The results show that the thermal stress affects the surface charging characteristic by changing the insulation conductivity. For epoxy/SiC composites, since the bulk conductivity is sensitive to the temperature, increasing sample temperature can decrease surface charge obviously. A simulation model was established to verify the effect of temperature on surface charging.
