Abstract

To improve the performance of color alternating current plasma display panel (AC-PDP), the effects of sustaining voltage pulse amplitude and frequency on the optical and electrical parameters of AC-PDP are studied by using the static measurement method. The optical and electrical parameters include firing voltage, extinguishing voltage, sustaining voltage margin, average discharge current, luminance, luminous efficiency, white-field chromaticity, etc. The study shows that with the increase in sustaining voltage amplitude and frequency, the average discharge current and luminance increase, and the white-field chromaticity changes little, but the luminous efficiency decreases. The decrease in luminous efficiency is owing to the self-absorbing phenomenon of Xe atoms and the excited radiation saturation of phosphors. Therefore, under the prerequisite of stable operation of PDP, the luminance, luminous efficiency, power consumption and lifetime of PDP must be considered when determining the amplitude and frequency of sustaining voltage pulse.
