Abstract
To study the effects of microarc oxidation treatment (MAO) on Ti-porcelain strength, 4 sorts of Ti substrates were prepared using 4 treatment ways. Their surfaces were observed and tested by SEM and EDS, then the substrates were bonded to porcelain to get Ti-porcelain composites. The bonding interfaces between Ti substrate and porcelain were observed by SEM. Bonding strength of the samples were measured by a three-point bending tester according to ISO9693. The experiment results show that the bonding strengths for polished Ti-porcelain sample No.1 sandblasted Ti-porcelain sample No.2, MAO and polished Ti-porcelain sample No.3 and MAO and sandblasted sample No.4 are 25.35±2.03, 32.18±2.21, 37.51±1.90 and (46.89±4.40 )MPa, respectively. There exist visible cracks at the interface between Ti substrate and porcelain for samples No.1 and No.2 which were not handled by MAO; while the bonding between Ti substrate and porcelain is compact for samples No.3 and No.4 which were handled by MAO, and no any bubbles and pores exist at the interface between Ti substrate and porcelain. The conclusion is drawn as follows: MAO can improve the bonding strength between Ti substrate and porcelain, and so can the sandblasting treatment.
