Effective use of peer-to-peer accommodation platform: the role of ICT service innovation and consumer engagement

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Purpose: Despite rapid advancements in information and communication technology (ICT) service innovations, many peer-to-peer accommodation (PPA) platforms struggle to quickly translate these innovations into effective use (EU). Drawing on engagement theory, we examine the role of ICT service innovation and consumer engagement in the EU of the PPA platform. Design/methodology/approach: We empirically validate the model using a multimethod approach, including an instrument development study and an online field survey. Findings: Incremental and radical ICT service innovations positively influence consumers’ emotional, cognitive and behavioral engagement, which further facilitates their EU of the PPA platform. Originality/value: These empirical findings offer theoretical insights into EU and provide practical guidance for optimizing the use of PPA platforms under rapid ICT service innovation.
