Dynamic changes of Th17 cell in patients with coronary artery disease

Abstract

Objective: To explore the significance and changes of T helper 17 (Th17) cell in different types of coronary artery disease. Methods: We recruited 20 patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI), 23 patients with unstable angina (UA), 19 patients with stable angina (SA) and 22 control subjects without coronary artery disease. The percentage of Th17 cell, plasma IL-17A and mRNA expression of related genes (IL-17A, RORγt and STAT3) in these patients were measured by flow cytometry, ELISA and real-time quantitative PCR, respectively. Results: Circled digit one The percentage of Th17 cell increased significantly in AMI and UA patients compared with that in SA group and controls (P<0.01). Circled digit two The mRNA expression of Th17 related factors (IL-17A, RORγt and STAT3) was significantly higher or had a tendency to increase in AMI group and UA group than in SA group and controls. Conclusion: The activation of Th17 cell exists in AMI patients and UA patients, which may contribute to plaque destabilization.
