Abstract

In this letter, perfect conversion from a propagating wave into surface waves is realized; it is important that the directions and powers of coupling surface waves are controlled based on the design of metasurface impedance. A precise method for calculating the amplitudes of coupling surface waves on the metasurface has been established in our work, and the directions and powers of coupling surface waves can be artificially designed by utilizing this calculating amplitude method of coupling surface waves. When the propagating wave and the coupling surface waves on the metasurface are determined, the impedance of the metasurface can be calculated based on an impenetrable impedance model. In the simulation, metasurfaces converted a propagating wave into a surface wave along different directions, and metasurfaces converted a propagating wave into two surface waves with opposite directions and different powers are designed, respectively. Both the simulation and experiment results verified that directions and power control of coupling surface waves from a propagating wave are realized in our work.
