Abstract
The temperature dependence of dielectric properties and phase transitions of 〈001〉 oriented (1-x)Pb(Zn1/3Nb2/3)O3-xPbTiO3 (PZN-PT) single crystals for x = 4.5% and x = 8% have been investigated as a function of DC bias field. These crystals exhibit frequency dispersion and increasing the PT content in the crystals suppresses the degree of relaxor behavior. As the bias field increases over a critical value, the temperature of the tetragonal-cubic phase transition increases but the temperature of the rhombohedral-tetragonal phase transition decreases with bias field. A bias field can stabilize the tetragonal phase in 〈001〉 oriented PZN-PT crystals resulting in a long-range ordered state and induced normal ferroelectric behavior.
