Abstract

A dual-band phase-controlled Huygens antenna with continuous 360° beam scanning capability is proposed for Internet-of-Things (IoT) applications. The antenna employs composite right/left-handed transmission lines (CRLH-TLs) structure to realize dual-band operation. Continuous beam-scanning in the horizontal plane is achieved by combining the T M10 mode of annular patch and the TMo1 mode of circular patch. Simulated results show that the antenna operates at 2. 4 5 GHz and 5.8 GHz with bandwidths of 11 MHz and 227 MHz. Continuous 360° beam-scanning is achieved by phase control of the three feeding ports. The direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation capability is verified using the MUSIC algorithm. The maximum mean absolute errors (MAE) are less than 0.4° at 2.45 GHz and 1° at 5.8 GHz. The proposed antenna provides a compact and effective solution for integrated beam-scanning and sensing in IoT systems.
