Abstract

In this paper, a novel multiple magnetic source axial flux modulation machine (MMS-AFMM) is proposed and investigated. Based on the dual modulation principle, four sets of magnets can be mounted on the stator and rotor. The topology of multiple magnetic sources enhances torque density and reliability. Six machines with different slot-pole combinations are presented and compared. The torque density of the MMS-AFMM reaches 15 Nm/kg.
