Abstract

This paper has conducted a comparative evaluation, mainly on the aspects of the fuel management strategy, for the Cr coated Accident Tolerant Fuel (ATF ) fuel applying in a typical domestic nuclear power plant (NPP), considering its 18-months fuel re-loading schedule. It designs two different conservative core management schemes, exploring the economical optimizing direction of the NPP utilizing Cr coated ATF fuel. One scheme is based on an "economic compensation" consideration, with the optimization target of compensating the economic loss brought from the application of the ATF fuel; The other scheme is called "economic enhancement", to enhance the whole economic of the NPP with ATF fuel. The analysis result concluded that, it is relatively difficult to achieve the "economic compensation" goal, however it can bring economic enhancement in term of the spent fuel disposal, transportation and post-processing; While the "economic enhancement" scheme can greatly increase the economy in a single fuel cycle, but will bring a significant effect on the plant's 18-months refuel cycle and future electricity generating plan.
