Abstract
Non-linear dynamic responses of vessel plate and shell structures under collision impact load are studied. The governing equations for the dynamic contact-impact response of shell structures are derived. The nine-node degenerated curved shell elements are adopted to treat contact-impact of vessel plate and shell structures under collision impact. Interactive contact force history between the different shaped cone impactor and the vessel plate and shell is established taking into consideration the large displacement and large strain as well as permanent deformation. Parametric study and numerical results on the dynamic response of vessel plates subjected to cone impact at low velocity are presented using present contact impact approach.
