Abstract

As renewable energy increasingly penetrates into power grid systems, new challenges arise to keep the systems reliable for system operators under uncertain circumstances, while ensuring high utilization of renewable energy. Due to the shortage in flexible resources and dispatching technology, the severe curtailment of renewable energy affects the sustainable development of renewable power. Many different formulations have been proposed for Unit Commitment (UC) problems, and many solution methodologies have been developed. However, considering that renewable energy characteristics and system scheduling were carried out separately by two sections, the existing study on UC separates the relationship of them. Based on the research of the impartial and open electrical dispatch model, this paper realizes four UC models with high penetration of renewable energy for comparison. To study the influence of renewable energy characteristics on model selection, this paper carries out case study on the real system, taking the northwest area as an example. The optimal models are compared by means of the solution analysis. The results provide some reference for operators to develop the level of UC schedule under fluctuation of renewable power and ensure the utilization of renewable power output.
