Abstract

Stator vernier permanent magnet machines (SVPM) have received significant interest in recent years. In this paper, six SVPM topologies with different stator permanent magnet arrangements are investigated comprehensively. The key dimensional parameters of the six topologies were first optimized, and then six finite element analysis (FEA) models are developed. The air-gap flux density and back electromotive force (EMF) of the topologies at no load are compared and analyzed. Then, the torque performance and overload capacity of the topologies are compared and discussed. In addition, the demagnetization performance for the six topologies is shown and discussed. The proposed new topologies offer a significant improvement in output torque and a decrease in permanent magnet cost.
