Abstract

This paper compares some performances of a six-phase switched reluctance motor (SRM) using asymmetrical half bridge (AHB) converter and m-switch converter. The topologies and characteristics of the two converters are firstly analyzed. The steady-state torque, current and voltage waveforms of SRM using the two converters are performed and compared under the same operation conditions. Simulation results from open loop, current chopping control (CCC) and angle position control (APC) show that a larger torque and a smaller torque ripple can be obtained by using m-switch converter. But the fall time of phase current is prolonged since status sequence of phase winding of m-switch converter is different from that of AHB converter.
