Abstract

Dielectric elastomer(DE) has been widely used as actuators in bionic robots. But the frequency of actuation is still limited by how fast the power supply charges and discharges the electrodes. Bidirectional flyback converter with high enough efficiency and simply structure is particularly suitable in this application. In this paper, the impact of several important circuit parameters on charging and discharging speed are discussed. Then a novel bidirectional flyback converter (12V input and 2500V output) based on traditional flyback circuit with an auxiliary unit is proposed in this paper. The auxiliary unit collects discharge energy and generates higher voltage (up to 80V) on transformer primary side, which can dramatically reduce charge and discharge time in simulation. A prototype (12V input and 700V output) is designed. Experimental results verify the prototype of proposed circuit can reduce the charging and discharging cycle time in the meanwhile.
