Abstract

This paper proposes the characteristics of undersea capacitive wireless power transfer (UCWPT) system for autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs). An experimental UCWPT system is constructed with the power level 100 W. The simulation work is conducted with the PSIM, MATLAB and Ansys Maxwell. The experiments are conducted with the seawater medium which is modelled by the seawater bags. The experimental results show that the proposed UCWPT system could work well in the seawater condition with the high coupling capacitance. The UCWPT system provides the good performance with the variable distance between transmitter and receiver. A detailed comparison of proposed UCWPT system which is placed in the air and in the seawater is given in this paper. This paper could facilitate the development of undersea wireless power transfer system.
