Abstract
A hybrid model that treated the cathode fall region using a kinetic technique and retained the hydrodynamic description for the remaining regions of discharge was presented. The dependence of the cathode fall voltage on the cathode fall thickness was found to be different to that of the gap voltage. It was suggested that the hybrid model was fundamentally sound and it can be applied reliably to dc atmospheric glow discharges.
