Abstract

Direct numerical method, including a second-order variable density projection method for solution of incompressible Navier-Stokes equations and VOF (volume of fluid) method for capturing of interface, was used to study the deformation mechanism of a rising bubble driven by buoyancy and the standing vortex formation mechanism at the rear of a deformed bubble. The equilibrium velocity of a steady rising bubble was obtained. Also the relationship between the inner circulation and standing vortex was discussed.
