Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the bone formation ability of silk fibroin-hydroxyapatite osteoid composite biomaterials in vitro. Methods: Human osteoblast-like cell line MG-63 was cultured on the material surface in vitro. After different time points, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity, extracellular matrix calcium ion concentration and the content of osteocalcin (OC) were tested to evaluate the osteogenesis properties of the material in vitro. Results: ALP activity of cells, extracellular matrix calcium ion concentration and the content of OC was significantly higher in the experimental group (silk fibroin-hydroxyapatite) than in the control group (hydroxyapatite). Conclusion: Silk fibroin-hydroxyapatite has excellent osteogenic activities in vitro. It may serve as a new type of material for clinical repair of bone tissue defects.
