Abstract

Development study is being conducted on the application of gas lubricated aerodynamic Plate-Foil journal bearing to the high speed cryogenic turboexpander. Owing to its simplicity and better performance, this type of Plate-Foil journal bearing is hopeful as applying to replace the externally pressurized gas bearing widely used in turboexpander now and it possesses better stability than the latter. A 25.0 mm diameter Plate-Foil journal beating has undergone test in the air cryogenic turboexpander. The experiment remits and the effect of the Plate-Foil bearing structure parameters on the rotor-bearing system stability are described in this paper.
