Abstract

Based on the dispersion model, a method of predicting the transient behaviour of parallel and counterflow heat exchangers is developed, with considering the shellside maldistribution and finite thermal capacities of both fluids and the tube bundle as well as the shell. The final solution has been obtained by means of the numerical inverse Laplace transform to determine transient responses to arbitrary inlet temperature variations. The experiment is carried out on a labor-sized apparatus. The comparison between the theoretical and experimental results is given and discussed.
