Abstract

In order to assess the electromagnetic characteristics of ultra-high voltage (UHV) transformers under DC Bias, a specifically designed scaling transformer is considered for the measurement of the actual distorted exciting current. Meanwhile, the equivalent numerical model based on the Finite element method (FEM) and the field-circuit coupled modelling is adopted. The comparison between the measurement and the simulation results of exciting current shows that the difference is negligible. Based on these fundamental data, exponential function is used to fit the relationship between the distorted exciting current peak and DC current. Therefore, through this relationship, the corresponding condition of exciting current can be assessed in ever-changing circumstances. This assessment method has great advantages in terms of computational speed and accuracy, which enables to give a promising prospect in engineering calculation.
