Abstract

This paper proposes a double-rotor permanent magnet reluctance motor (PMRM) used in electrical variable transmission. The permanent magnet outer rotor brings high power density and complex electromagnetic coupling as well. In this paper, both equivalent-magnetic-circuit method and finite element method are used to analyze electromagnetic coupling in PMRM. The equivalent-magnetic-circuit method is used to analyze electromagnetic coupling on magnetic flux qualitatively. And meanwhile, finite element method is used to analyze the electromagnetic coupling on magnetic flux, inductance and torque quantitatively. According to the results from two analysis methods, it can be obtained that complex electromagnetic coupling in PMRM is important and cannot be ignored, and it will effectively bring smaller torque ripple.
