Analysis of dysfunction in patients with thalamic hemorrhage

Abstract

Background: Patients with thalamic hemorrhage not only have basic characteristics of general cerebral hemorrhage but also present miscellaneous signs and symptoms as well as dysfunctions. CT and MRI are highly valuable means for diagnosis. Objective: To explore the dysfunctional characteristics with patients with thalamic hemorrhage in order to provide basis for clinical diagnosis and rehabilitation. Design: Retrospective analysis on the basis of diagnosis. Settings and participants: Sixty-six patients with thalamic hemorrhage were selected from First Hospital of Xi' an Jiaotong University which included 36 males and 30 females, 48 to 72 years old, average age was 61.8 years old. Interventions: Data were collected by all authors. Analysis had been done to the 66 patients on clinical manifestation and CT or MRI images. Results: There were 31 patients with thalamic syndrome, 34 patients with specific symptom group of thalamus like binocular gazing, 16 patients with thalamic aphasia, 8 patients with thalamic hand and thalamic pain. Conclusion: The clinical symptoms of thalamic hemorrhage are complicated. They present not only thalamic syndrome but also thalamic characteristic symptoms. These symptoms are specific to the clinical diagnosis.
