Abstract

The optical nature of ocean water is of great importance to the airborne laser depth sounding. The scattering and absorption of laser within the sea result in the difficulty of the signal detection. They can also result in a delayed laser pulse on reflection from the sea bottom into the airborne receiver system. This paper describes passage characteristic of laser transmission within sea in detail from analysing absorption and scattering of ocean water, and elaborating influence of passage characteristic on airbone laser depth sounding.
