Abstract

The design scheme of DC side voltage in Static Var Generator (SVG) is presented in a quantitative manner. The extensive analysis of the influence of DC side voltage on the performance of SVG is carried out, and a specification of the DC side voltage rated value is presented. A required lowest value of DC side voltage for full compensation (a unity total power factor) is obtained according to the output reactive current. For the situation of DC voltage is smaller than the above-obtained lowest value, the DC side voltage can be designed by using the power factor and harmonic current for the sinusoidal modulation control and over modulation control. Compared with the conventional design methods according to the experiences or simulations, the proposed scheme can be employed to design the DC side voltage quantitatively. The experiments verify its effectiveness.
