An architecture of CAD/CAPP integrated system for wire harness

Abstract

Wire harnesses are the main parts of automotive electrical system, and they are becoming more and more complex with the improving of people's demand for the performance of safety, comfortableness, economy and emission etc. Most of domestic wire harnessesmanufactured enterprises still adopt traditional manual methods in design and process planning. Even though the design systems for wire harness have been researched deeply at abroad, they are not fully suitable for domestic enterprises, and they are quite expensive to the common company. So, it's significant to research and develop CAD/CAPP systems for wire harness. This paper proposed an architecture of CAD/CAPP integrated system for wire harness, and studied the key technologies including the method of making information model of harness, the algorithms of process planning and process database design to provide a foundation for future research and development.
