abstract = "The failure diagnosis of reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs) is essential to their optimal performance. In this paper, a failure model and its diagnosis method of RISs are presented to detect the dramatic attenuation failure of element amplitude. Instead of inverting the phase of a single element each time in the conventional method, this paper employs a Hadamard matrix-based method that is more robust to the measurement noise in practice. Under the same settings of measurement noise, the Hadamard matrix-based method in this paper can properly detect the dramatic attenuation failure of element amplitude, while it fails with the conventional phase-inverting method.",
