Abstract

An effective way to reduce the computational complexity of short-term hydro generation scheduling is to adopt the so called aggregated hydro unit based model (AHU). However, some fundamental problems related with AHU have not been fully discussed in literature yet. The theoretical properties, methods for constructing approximated AHU and the related error analysis issues are discussed in this paper. A method is established also in this paper to give an approximated AHU which can maintain a good balance between approximation error and model complexity. Numerical testing results show that the method proposed in this paper is effective. The model established in this paper can be used in both hydro producer self-scheduling and hydro-thermal generation scheduling.
