Abstract

Recently, more and more attention has been paid to the power generation from renewable energy resources, such as wind energy, solar energy etc. As one of the interconnecting scheme with power grid of renewable energy resources, voltage source converter (VSC) has been gradually used in power system. Therefore, special attention has also been devoted to research about VSC, such as mathematics modeling, external characteristic of VSC and its impact on power system. This paper focuses on mathematics modeling of VSC and it's simplification. Firstly, the mathematic model of VSC based on switching function, which can describe working principle of VSC, is built. Then, the model is decomposed into Fourier series and simplified. Finally, comparative analysis between detailed mathematical model and its simplified model is carried out, the simulation result shows that the simplified model presented in this paper can accurately describe the dynamic characteristic of VSC and be applied to simulate and analyze the electromechanical process in VSC integrated power system.
