Abstract

A wideband polarization-reconfigurable slot antenna is proposed for wireless-area network (WLAN) 802.11a applications. The antenna consists of four slots in an X-shape. Four PIN-diode switches are used to re-configure the antenna to a left-hand circular polarization (LHCP) or right-hand circulation polarization (RHCP) antenna. The proposed antenna is studied and designed using computer simulation. Results show that the antenna has a wide impedance bandwidth (IMBW) of 5.11-6.21 GHz (19.5%) for S11<-10 dB and axial-ratio bandwidth (ARBW) of 5.5-5.91 GHz (7.2%). The radiation patterns and realized boresight gain also presented.
