Abstract

Film-mode detection is one of the critical techniques for TV display processing, and has a direct impact on the overall display quality. Although the realization of film-mode detection is relatively simple, conventional film-mode detection approaches often suffer from poor robustness. This paper proposes two efficient techniques to improve the robustness of real-time film-mode detection, i.e. moving pixel weighted-counter and local noise level estimation. Both simulation and SoC evaluation demonstrated that the robustness of film-mode detection can be significantly improved by applying the proposed techniques.
