Abstract

This paper proposes a new control method for parallel active power filter (PAPF) to deal with current harmonics generated by fast-changing dynamic load. The idea in this control method is to control the compensation current injected by PAPF to trace the whole load current to achieve fast response of harmonics suppression. Since the control signal directly comes from the detected load current, the PAPF obtains the fastest dynamic response theoretically. In addition, the DC-side voltage control is indispensable in this control to maintain the active power balance for the proper operation of the PAPF system. Simulation and experimental results that are obtained for steady state operation and step changes in the load are presented to verify the validity of the proposed control method and the performance of the PAPF.
