Abstract

Using polarized light microscopy, a new tetragonal phase (42m), which is followed by an orthorhombic mm2 polar phase, has been found in Cr-Cl boracite to be stable at zero electric field and zero mechanical stress. The true field free phase sequence 43m [formula ommitted] -42m [formula ommitted] mm2 has been established.
