Abstract
The traditional S-transform with frequency-dependent Gaussian window is widely used in seismic data analysis. But it may not suitable for all applications. For example, the time frequency spectrum obtained by S-transform has a low temporal resolution at low frequencies, which may be insufficient for some seismic interpretation purposes. To overcome the drawbacks inherent in the S-transform, a modified window function with three parameters is proposed for S-transform to control the time-frequency resolution, which called the modified S transform (MST).These three parameters can be selected flexibly for different purpose. Synthetic examples show that this modification of the S-transform exhibits a significant improvement in the time and frequency resolution comparing with the standard S-transform.Field data experiments also demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
