A model of linear regression used to describe tribological condition in ferrography analysis.

Abstract

A novel method of monitoring the condition of machines is proposed. The method is based on the fact that if the particle size distribution in the lubricant does not change, the relationships between the direct ferrograph readings D SUB L and D SUB S will also not change, although the concentrations may be different. The experimental results of monitoring the wear condition of a gear box by this method show that it can give timely information about the change in the wear condition of the gear box, which suggests that the method is effective.
