Abstract

A low profile dual-linearly-polarized antenna is proposed for millimeter wave communications. By combining a Substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) based horn antenna, and a Vivaldi antenna etched on the top surface of the horn antenna, dual polarization are achieved. Besides, zero index metamaterials are loaded in front of the Vivaldi antenna, to improve the gain. The numerical results show that the proposed antenna achieves a wideband with a compact size and high port isolation. The total dimension of the proposed antenna is 40×16×2.8 mm3. This structure inspires a new design approach to realize a low profile dual-polarized antenna for mobile terminals.
