Abstract

In this paper, a linear dual-polarized antenna array with high front-to-back ratio (FBR) is designed for base station applications. The design process of the array topology is described, and a combined method of dielectric blocks and metal baffles is proposed for FBR enhancement. The dielectric blocks above the antenna elements and the metal baffles between the adjacent elements help to retain the radiation pattern and sup-press the backward radiation. A dual-polarized cross-dipole antenna array with dielectric blocks and metal baffles is designed and simulated. The FBR is enhanced by around 6 - 9 dB across the working frequency range from 700 to 960 MHz, while maintaining good impedance matching and compact arrangement.
