Abstract
A 3D porous magnet, [KCo7(OH)3(ip)6(H 20)4].12H20 where H2ip is isophthalic acid, prepared by solvothermal reaction of cobalt acetate, H 2ip, and KOH in H20-MeOH, underwent SCSC transformation, concomitant with reversible magnetic property change upon desorption/adsorption of guest molecules. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and temperature-dependent powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) reveals that the water molecules in porous magnet can be completely removed below 120°C and the host MOF decomposes above 300°C. To confirm the permanent porosity and to explore further the potential applications for other guest molecules, N2 adsorption/desorption behaviors of magnets were measured at 77 K. The single-crystal X-ray analysis confirms the removal of not only the guest molecules, but also all aqua ligands bound to the CoII and K I centers.
