Abstract

A Composite Right/Left Handed Transmission Line (CRLH-TL) based multi-functional metamaterial is designed, which combines both Right Handed Transmission Line (RH-TL) parts and CRLH-TL parts. Two different functional reconfigurable antennas are proposed based on the same metamaterial structure. By loading PIN diodes to switch the dispersion properties of the proposed metamaterial structure, the antenna 1 has the ability to obtain pattern diversity in two bands. By using varactor diodes to continuously tune the dispersion properties, the antenna 2 can achieve dual band frequency tuning.
