N2 - This paper deals with a comparative study of magnetic characteristics and dynamic performances for a dual-channel switched reluctance machine (DCSRM) with different types of winding connections by using finite element analysis (FEA). Acorrding to the winding conections, there are two flux-path modes which will be called long flux-path (LFP) and short flux-path (SFP) modes. In the LFP mode, there is a complete magnetic decoupling between phases, but in the SFP mode, the flux of one phase links other conducting phases, so there are a lot of mutual coupling between each other conducting phases in the SFP mode. The mathematic models for the DCSRM with different winding connections are presented. For a 12/8 DCSRM, the static magnetic charactersitics of self and mutual inductance, the dynamic performances such as phase currents and torque are compared under different winding connections using FEA. The simulation and experimental results show that the DCSRM with SFP mode will help to lighten the weight of machine and has maximum average torque and minimum torque ripple.
