Abstract
In this paper, the deformation and corresponding concentration loss of parabolic trough collectors induced by wind loads are systematically studied based on COMSOL. The multi-physics coupling (hydrodynamics-mechanics-optics) numerical studies are conducted under different the wind speeds, accelerations and the collector orientations. The conclusions are as follows: 1) The maximum displacement increases exponentially with the increase of wind speeds. When the wind speeds is 14 m/s, the maximum displacement and concentration loss are 5.52 mm and 23.34%, respectively. 2) The wind with accelerations causes larger deformation and concentration loss compared with the wind with constant wind speed. When the acceleration is 0 and 10 m/s2, the corresponding maximum horizontal displacements and concentration losses are 2.85 mm and 5.34 mm, 10.02% and 20.17%. 3) Under different collector orientations, maximum deformation and corresponding concentration loss are obtained as 26.96 mm and 47.41% at θ=0°, respectively.
