Abstract

The deep penetration of new energy, high-degree of power electronics, and high-degree of freedom in energy supply and consumption in the new power system reshapes morphological characteristics of the system, which is more fragile and urgently needs to improve resilience under extreme events. Multi-time scale response and power-energy dual regulation of energy storage resources are of great potential to improve the resilience during extreme scenes. Therefore, this paper focuses on improving the ability of the new power system to actively respond to extreme events, and discusses the optimal configuration and flexible scheduling of energy storage towards system resilience improvement. This paper first analyzes the challenges and significant requirements of resilience improvement in the new form of power system, summarizes the development characteristics of energy storage technology and its functional application in conventional scenarios. Then, the research status of energy storage improving system resilience in extreme scenarios from the planning and operation aspects is investigated. Finally, this paper points out the future research direction and some suggestions for energy storage to improve the resilience of new-type power system focusing on prevention before extreme events, response during extreme events, recovery after extreme events.
